A slice of nature may be the cure to your skin's problems

Natural isn't always better, but these skincare ingredients are worth the bite

Welcome to Masktini! We are a gentle skincare brand for kickass women who want great results without the gook. Our products contain ingredients that are great for even the most sensitive skin. From watermelon to pomegranate stem cell extract, we like natural skincare ingredients. Yet, we know that natural does not always mean gentler or better for your skin. Although skinimalism is a popular 2021 beauty trend, you can say that it has always been our thing. Our products are not the kind that you collect for your skincare product arsenal, no. You invest in them because they address specific skin issues. Some of these issues may include premature aging, dull and rough texture, and congested skin.

Although we are not a natural skincare brand, we understand why natural skincare ingredients are important. This is why we still use a crap ton of natural ingredients in our products! Keep reading as we unpack:

Our top 4 natural skincare ingredients

1. Apple hydrating extract

It turns out that an apple a day does not only keep the doctor away, but it keeps away free radicals and acne! Like most fruits, an apple is full of water which is critical for hydrated skin. As we always stress, the more hydrated your skin is, the less it will be prone to oil overproduction. With less oil production, your pores will not clog and attract acne-causing bacteria. Apart from acne-fighting properties, apples contain vitamin C. This is a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin C brightens the skin and protects it from damage caused by free radicals.

Used in our Woke Bae Whenever Moisture Spritz, apple hydrating extract:

  • Minimizes the appearance of pores
  • Supports the healing of blemishes
  • Rejuvenates stressed or tired-looking skin

By using this moisture face spritzer, you give your skin the hydration it needs, whenever you need it. That’s why we call it the “Whenever Moisture Spritz!

2. Watermelon extract

A few weeks ago, we wrote about this delicious Summer fruit. Like apples, watermelon hydrates the skin in the same way that it hydrates your body on a balmy summer day. This is why it should not surprise you that we use watermelon extract in our Woke Bae Whenever Moisture Spritz. Watermelon contains many of the natural skincare ingredients that everyone loves including:

  • Vitamin A: The key ingredient found in retinol, a powerful anti-aging natural skincare ingredient.
  • Vitamin C: this antioxidant brightens the skin through exfoliation and stimulates collagen production. Collagen production is essential in the fight against premature aging.
  • Lycopene: This antioxidant prevents skin discoloration, texture changes, fine lines and wrinkles.

If you plan to spend a lot of time in the sun this summer, be sure to beef up on this natural skincare ingredient. Although we never recommend extended sun exposure, you may be able to treat sun-damaged skin with this natural skin care ingredient!

3. Orange extract

We sure love our fruits, don’t we? Look, you are what you eat! If something is good enough for ingestion, it has to be good enough for the skin. At least for the most part. In many ways, oranges are the grandfather fruits of natural skincare ingredients. Like apples and watermelons, they are powerful antioxidants that benefit your skin! Defense against free radicals? Check. Exfoliate and brighten skin? Check. Lighten dark spots and blemishes? Check. Boost collagen production? You guessed it - check! Whatever you need, vitamin C provides without end. Now do you understand why your parents always wanted you to drink orange juice as a kid?!

By the way, we love orange extract so much that we used it in our Metal Head Gold Brightening Mask and Twilight Zone Tahitian Detox Mask.

4. Vitamin A or retinol

Is any discussion about natural skincare ingredients complete without vitamin A or retinol?  For many years, retinol has been the supreme anti-aging skincare ingredient. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative. You can find it in any food that contains beta carotene. So if you wonder whether carrots are a great natural skin care ingredient, the answer is yes! Some of its skincare benefits include:

  • Increased cell turnover helps to even and brighten skin tone by sloughing of dead skin cells.
  • Boosted collagen production which is critical for anti-aging. Collagen smooths fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance.
  • Purifies pores and heals acne, blemishes, and other skin issues caused by acne.

Anyone who disagrees that retinol is not a skincare elixir must have perfect skin. Since perfect isn’t real, it’s safe to bet that most skincare enthusiasts agree that retinol is the holy grail of skincare! Our Night Ranger Overnight Renewal Mask contains retinol. As the name suggests, this product is best for nighttime use. Retinol increases skin photosensitivity which leads to extensive sun damage over time.
